Twelfth Conference of the National Security Authorities of the South East European Countries (SEENSA)

The Twelfth Conference of the South East European National Security Authorities (SEENSA) was held on 27 September in Skopje, Republic of North Macedonia. The conference was organized under the Chairmanship of the Directorate for Security of Classified Information (National Security Authority) of the Republic of North Macedonia and with the support of the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC). Aside from the representatives of the Directorate and the RCC, the conference was attended by delegations of Albania, Bosnia and Hercegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Montenegro, Serbia, Slovenia as well as by a representative of the EU Delegation to Skopje.

 

The focus of the conference was put on the current activities, challenges and future plans for strengthening the protection of classified information on national and regional level. The additional presentations on cyber security and EU integrations delivered by renowned experts in the abovementioned fields put an additional quality to the conference’ s overall program. Future of the SEENSA Initiative and forms of further cooperation were also subject of discussion among the participants. In that regard, it was unanimously agreed that SEENSA should be further developed as an inclusive and practical tool for cooperation.

Ohrid Security Forum

Representatives of the Directorate for Security of Classified Information took part in the 10th jubilee Ohrid Security Forum which was held in the period between 26 and 29 August 2022. The Forum was organized by the George Marshall Center Alumni Association of the Republic of North Macedonia with the support of the George Marshall European Center for Security Studies and NATO Public Diplomacy Division.

 

The Forum’s primary aim was to exchange experiences, good practices and points of view among the alumni on the global and regional security challenges, as well as to locate forms of cooperation which will help to tackle the transnational, terrorist, asymmetric, state-sponsored and threats coming from the information realm.

 

In the context of the information related threats, a special panel session was dedicated to the role of the national security authorities in protecting the sensitive information and maintaining a resilient and information-integrated security system. The Director of the Directorate Stojan Slaveski and the Directors of the National Security Authorities of Albania and Montenegro delivered appropriate case-studies on this topic.

Regional Online Workshop

Skopje, 28 April 2022

The Directorate for Security of Classified Information, in cooperation and with the support of the Regional Cooperation Council, organized on 28 April 2022 the “Reflective Workshop on the Intersections between the Security Awareness and the Security Aspects of Classified Information”. Renowned experts and practitioners from the EU Commission and the European External Action Service as well as from NATO Office of Security elaborated on the concept of security awareness in the context of protecting classified information and presented on concrete mechanisms for raising security awareness. The national and regional perspective on this particularly important segment of security of classified information were also provided by representatives from the Directorate itself as well as by representatives of the national security authorities of the SEE region. Practical experiences were also exchanged among the workshop’s participants.

The online reflective workshop was held within this year's Chairmanship of the National Security Authority of the Republic of North Macedonia with the SEENSA Initiative.

Presentation of the Book of Commentaries on the Law on Classified Information

PictureUnder the auspices of the Geneva Centre for Security Sector Governance (DCAF), the Directorate for Security of Classified Information on July 7, 2021 held the conference entitled “Presentation of the Book of Commentaries on the Law on Classified Information”.

Organized within DCAF’s Intelligence and Security Sector Reform Programme in the Republic of North Macedonia (2021-2026), the conference aimed to promote the Book of Commentaries on the Law on Classified Information as well as to present the novelties deriving from the new Law on Classified Information. Opinions on the necessity for raising security awareness among the users of classified information were exchanged and the E-tutorial on classified information related thereto was also promoted.

Meeting of the Directors of the National Security Authorities in the Region 6S Format

The sixth meeting of the Directors of the National Security Authorities (NSA) of the Ex-Yugoslav republics (6S format) was held on 12 September 2018 at Bled, Republic of Slovenia, as a back-to-back event with the Eighth SEENSA Conference. The meeting was supported by the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC) as a result of its clear committment to support all forms of regional cooperation that are not contradictory to the SEENSA format of cooperation.
According to the established practice, the goal of the meeting was to exchange experiences about the processes and activities related to the classified information currently ongoing in the countries from the region that may grow into events with bilateral and regional character. In that context, the participants in the discussions identified initiatives and projects that will contribute to strengthening the regional cooperation and will give a new impetus to the implementation of the security policy on exchange and mutual protection of classified information in the region.

PictureThe Eighth Conference of the South East European National Security Authorities (SEENSA) was held on 11 September 2018 at Bled, Republic of Slovenia. The conference was held within the 13th Bled Strategic Forum with this year’s slogan “Bridging the Divide”.
The conference was co-chaired by the Director of the NSA Slovenia, Mr. Dobran Božić, and the Secretary General of the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC), Mr. Goran Svilanovic. The conference was attended by delegations of the National Security Authorities of the Republic of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Republic of Bulgaria, Republic of Croatia, Kosovo, Republic of Macedonia, Republic of Moldova, Republic of Montenegro, Republic of Slovenia and Republic of Serbia, as well as by a representative of the EU Council General Secretariat.

The conference was co-chaired by the Director of the NSA Serbia, Mr. Goran Matic, Ph.D., and the Secretary General of the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC), Mr. Goran Svilanovic. The conference was attended by delegations of the National Security Authorities of the Republic of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Republic of Bulgaria, Republic of Croatia, Kosovo, Republic of Macedonia, Republic of Moldova, Republic of Montenegro, Romania, Republic of Slovenia and Republic of Serbia, as well as by a representative of the EU Council General Secretariat. The chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee for Defence and Security of Serbia and the Police Director were special guests at the opening of the conference.

NATO Security Workshop for Non-NATO Nations and International Organizations

The Director of the Directorate for Security of Classified Information attended the NATO Security Workshop for Non-NATO Nations and International Organizations that took place in the period from 25 to 29 September 2017 in Brdo, Republic of Slovenia, organized by the NATO Office of Security (NOS) and the National Security Authority of the Republic of Slovenia. The workshop was designed for non-NATO countries and for representatives of other international organizations, with aim to familiarize them with the practical experiences from the application of the NATO security regulations and procedures.

The conference that was co-chaired by the RCC Secretary General, Mr. Goran Svilanovic, was attended by delegations of the National Security Authorities of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Republic of Bulgaria, Republic of Croatia, Kosovo, Republic of Macedonia, Republic of Moldova, Republic of Montenegro, Romania, Republic of Slovenia and Republic of Serbia.
